Dermaplaning

dermaplaning austin texas, austinmd

Dead skin can create a dull, rough, or dry appearance, and debris on the skin’s surface may make topical products less effective and makeup application uneven. Dermaplaning is a minimally invasive, comfortable treatment option which creates smoother, more luminous, and more youthful skin without requiring downtime. This treatment is a great option for a range of common concerns including fine lines, sun damage, dryness, acne scars and more. Patients in the Austin, Texas area can choose AustinMD Aesthetics and Wellness in Cedar Park for safe, effective dermaplaning treatment.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a rejuvenating skin treatment in which a sterile blade is used to exfoliate and remove the fine hairs from the face. This treatment may also be referred to as microplanning. The purpose of dermaplaning is to create a smoother, refreshed, and youthful surface. It can be a good option for a wide range of common concerns and allows for deeper absorption of topical treatments and smoother makeup application.

Who is a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is appropriate for most patients. The treatment can be used to improve conditions including acne scars, dullness, dryness, sun damage, and fine lines. Dermaplaning is typically considered safe and suitable for patients of all skin types and tones. A brief consultation will ensure that you are a good candidate for the procedure.

The Dermaplaning Procedure

Prior to dermaplaning, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. As needed, you may also be given a numbing spray or cream, though this is not typically necessary. Your dermaplaning provider will then use a sterile blade to gently scrape along the skin at a 45-degree angle. This removes dead skin cells, debris, and hair from the skin’s surface. The treatment is gentle and comfortable, typically lasting about 20 to 30 minutes.

Once your dermaplaning treatment is complete, soothing topical treatments are applied. Your provider may also suggest applying serums or other products, as these can more effectively absorb into the skin following dermaplaning treatment. Finally, your provider will apply SPF to protect the skin after your treatment.

Dermaplaning Results and Recovery

No downtime is required after dermaplaning. The skin should immediately appear smoother and more luminous after treatment. Final results can be seen a few weeks after dermaplaning.

You may also notice some redness or sensitivity, which should quickly resolve. In addition, the skin will be photosensitive after dermaplaning. You should apply SPF 30+ daily and avoid excess sun exposure as much as possible following dermaplaning treatment.

Dermaplaning results are not permanent. Typically, patients will notice their results have faded about three months after dermaplaning. Routine maintenance treatments can be scheduled to keep up the results if you choose. During a consultation, your provider can discuss a long-term treatment plan so you can enjoy healthy and youthful skin over time.
